Free Taste: The Chef’s Shift

Get ready to cook up a storm in “The Chef’s Shift” – a fast-paced typing game set in a bustling restaurant! With your keyboard as your weapon, you’ll need to cook and serve delicious dishes to hungry customers before they lose their patience. But that’s not all – you’ll also need to juggle all kinds of crazy distractions, from rat invasions to unruly customers.

The Chef’s Shift is a restaurant management game where you have to type everything to accomplish your tasks.

AND IT’S FUNNN. I’m not really a fast typist but this one really made me get my typing shit together. In all honesty, before I started the game, I turned off case sensitive, number and symbol. I played it Normal (coz I’m a bitch baby) and still really found it challenging especially when there’s the group orders and a line for take out. And sometimes the words overlap so you need another level of hand-eye coordination with a level-headed planning kind of mindset when approaching this game. Shooting the mouse is a fun bit too.

Aside from the exciting game mechanics, the plot and dialog also gave me the chuckles. The design is very Mr. Beans which is cute and triggers happy childhood memories. There’s just that heavily used Kevin MacLeod music which kind of irked me a bit but overall I really enjoyed playing.

The full game is already out. The Chef’s Shift demo only included the first scene, which is Little Italy. This included of course some mafia tropes and a lot of espresso, pizza, spaghetti and frittos. There’s also a quick glimpse into China which then introduced mini-games within the already hectic gameplay. It’s going to be fun but a bit pricey. For P424, I’m hoping this will stretch into God of Burger epicness.

Final verdict: Would play just to prove I can type fast, but still untick the numbers and special characters. Drop and blame the rat. Then play again later to torture myself.
